South Bay Musical Theatre is pleased to announce the directors for two of our 2015-16 shows, FIORELLO! (Fall ’15) and GYPSY (Spring ’16).

Long-time SBMT member, Board member, and director C. Michael Traw will helm our fall production, “Fiorello.” The musical depicts the original ‘man of the people,’ Fiorello LaGuardia, who bested the corrupt Tammany Hall political bosses and became Mayor of New York City. With a book and score by the team that wrote “Fiddler on the Roof,” the show won not only the Tony for Best Musical but also the Pulitzer Prize for drama. Mr. Traw notes he has a soft spot for this musical, one of the first he ever attended. He looks forward to bringing this larger-than-life character to the stage, along with the two women who loved him. “It is really a love story,” says Traw.

This summer, Broadway veteran and San José State University faculty member Janie Scott will bring “Gypsy” to life. During her career as a performer, Ms. Scott has had the opportunity to work with theatre greats such as Harold Prince, Stephen Sondheim, Trevor Nunn, and Michael Bennett, performing in shows such as Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along on Broadway, Nunn’s Cats in Los Angeles, and in the original touring companies of Bennett’s A Chorus Line. She teaches musical theatre and dance history and performance, as well as music theory and jazz dance at SJSU. Ms. Scott is also the Artistic Director of SJSU’s Company One musical theatre performing ensemble.
