January 18, 2012

Happy Birthday this month to Margaret Hardy (19th), Mary Melnick (20th), Carolyn Manning and Neil Midkiff (21st), Elizabeth Lowenstein and CJ Blankenship (22nd), Andy Amaro and Michael Sommese (24th), Jen Smith and Joe Colletti (26th), Ed Sengstack (27th), and Kim Kay (28th).

A reminder about the Crab Feed on Saturday night at the Community Center (behind the theater) beginning at 6:00 p.m. Lot of good food and great silient auction prizes. Come and support SBMT as its only fund raising event. This helps pay for the warehouse and other necessary factors.

FINIAN'S RAINBOW opens in just one week and there are still 33 tickets left for opening night. Go go go Ronnie Grigsby and Kerie Daner-Moss as the current top ticket sellers. Come and be part of the gala celebration. Always good food and drink plus the fellowship which is the most important. Such great music and sweet story. www.SouthBayMT.com for tickets on line. Tell them C. Michael sent you. We still need ushers also.

Congratulations to the new SBMT officers: Jay Steele returns as chairperson; Jeffrey Henson, vice-chairperson; Bradon Taylor, treasurer; Linda McKee, corresponding secretary; Janet Miller, recording secretary; and Jennifer Smith, historian. A big thank you to the retiring board members Kevin Cornelius and Lucy Haab.

Applications for staff postions for our three new shows: ANYTHING GOES, PROMISES, PROMISES, and FUNNY GIRL, are now being accepted. Producers and directors will be named first. If interested, contact Mr. Steele or another Board Member.

FALSETTOLAND, a Stirfry Production, opens next week also in San Francisco at the Alcove Theater, 414 Mason (Fifth Floor). It plays only three weekends. I saw this last year when they did it and it was excellent. It features Lawrence-Michael Arias and Alex Hsu, Try to catch it. For tickets, call (408) 782-4373 or visit their website at www.stirfrytheatre.com

CROSSING DELANCY directed by Cathy Cassetta opens next week at Tabard also. Stage One opens this weekend with HAIRSPRAY in Newark. And there is a production of MARVIN'S ROOM also opening this weekend at the Dragon Theater in Palo Alto featuring Lynda Marcum. For tickets, call 800-838-3006. And ON THE TOWN, a musical not done very often, is in Morgan Hill next weekend. Check Goldstar for reduced tickets.

I checked the Rrazz Room line up for next year: Jack Jones (1/17-1/22), Della Reese (2/16-2/18), Janis Paige (3/4-3/5), Lucie Arnaz (3/6-3/11), Elaine Stritch (5/25-6/7), Ben Vereen (6/12-6/24), Shirley Jones (10/23-10/28) and Betty Buckley (10/30-11/4).
